Motivation Theory Part 2 - Goals and Behavior

Goals and behavior dictate how employees work. Motivation theory is complex enough, however in the workplace it is important for our manager to understand why his employees behave in certain ways because part of the manager's responsibility is to motivate the employee.

Anthony Robbins said "Behavior is goal directed. We move away from pain and we move towards what gives us pleasure."

Not all behavior makes sense to the outside world. There are so many facts we don't know about a person and their situation. We know that each person behaves in certain ways in order to accomplish goals.

The ideal situation is when the individual, by accomplishing his job and helps the organization reach its goals, also satisfies his own personal goals.

The greater the harmony between the organization and the individual's objectives, the greater the productivity.
