Why Bother With Evaluation?

Why do we need evaluation? Because nothing will kill a business faster than not doing this. Some people find the evaluation process disagreeable and distasteful task.

The philosophy of "everyone is a winner", "no one left behind", "we are all equal" belongs in kindergarten, not business.

Assessing people and situations is the oxygen management needs in order to survive. I spoke about survival in The Management Process "The objectives are survival, profits, and growth". Management must keep an eye on its objectives and must evaluate and measure where it stands against the objectives.

We all come from different places, we all have different experiences and different backgrounds which makes evaluation more difficult. In addition, we have managers who don't know how to evaluate and what to base that judgement on. You need a solid evaluation program to ensure a consistent evluation and measurement system.
