Attitude Steps Leading to Change

Perception is the key that unlocks the door to action, but the attitude controls what action is taken.

We already covered that dissatisfaction motivates us to change.

I shall drill down into the idea that attitudinal steps bring about change. The steps are: Awareness, Understanding, Concern, Dissatisfaction, and Action. Knowing this becomes useful as an analytical and planning tool.

Awareness - The beginning of the road towards action begins with awareness. At first we have to be aware that the situation is not optimal and needs to be changed. If we are not aware, we do not see the need, nor engage the energy required for a change.

Understanding - At this step the individual gathers additional information and gains more understanding of what is involved in the problem or the opportunity. It also validates the "Awareness" stage.

Concern: - Concern is caused by realizing the situation needs correction. At this point more information is sought.

Dissatisfaction - This is the prelude to change. If the dissatisfaction is great, it builds up the desire for change and leads to the next step.

Action - This is where the action taken relieves the dissatisfaction.

Understanding the attitude steps is very useful in marketing, advertising, and employee motivation.
